The Great Outdoors of the Beehive State

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Every year my family goes on our annual winter getaway to the famous silver mining town of Park City.  Better known for its ritzy, chic, and distinguished resorts, Park City is a winter playground for ski bums and celebrities (ever hear of the Sundance Film Festival?).  We may not stay at the fanciest hotel in town but we love the access we have to the “greatest snow on earth” and will spend all seven days of the vacation riding the slopes.

An east coast native, I was curious about what other Utah outdoor adventures the Beehive state had to offer.  I’ve heard great things about Southern Utah, where Zion National Park and Moab are located.  Could there be more to this place than just winter recreational activities and was there just as much to do during the warmer months of the year?

Well according to Outdoor Utah, there is.  The site has ample information regarding outdoor destinations within the state as well as lodging, outfitter, restaurant, and other vendor information.  Hopefully all you outdoor enthusiasts will have as much fun perusing the website as I did!

One Gal’s Success Story…

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

So I recently tried the china replacement services recommended by another one of our contributors (in a previous post) and have to admit I was rather reluctant to.  I mean, I figured it would not only be a waste of money but a waste of my precious and well-deserved time to myself; what were the chances of finding the china replacement dish I had accidentally shattered into a million pieces?

Before I was willing to call it a complete loss, I decided to try it, and actually found the piece, and a few other matching pieces from that same set.   Now that’s what I call a happy ending, at least in my book.  Much to his chagrin, my husband is now worried that I have tapped into an unknown reservoir that is going to empty his wallet!  Well, he’s probably right.

Avaya IP Office

Monday, October 29th, 2007

We’ve paid homage previously to the versatile and robust Avaya IP Office.  Well, the IP telephony powerhouse now has the Small Office Edition and apparently we are not the only fans of the VoIP solution; “we highly recommend it,” (their words, not ours) for small and medium sized businesses, since the system can support anywhere from two to 28 users.

Online Backup

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Apparently one in ten hard drives fails each year.  Now that’s a scary preposition for any business.  The loss of financial documents, client information, intellectual business property, or sensitive information could potentially mean the ruination of any company.

Online backup is the most secure, quick, and efficient way to backup important data and documents.  If a catastrophe or mishap were to ever damage your hard drive or bring about the loss of files, an online backup service would be able to immediately begin restoring such files.

And it’s not just for business use; remote online backup has become popular with personal PC users.  Losing years worth of digital photos, MP3 files and personal documents could be devastating; online backup enables PC users to feel at ease with the protection of their important files.

Make sure you have adequate backup; most online backup services offer a free trial period for you to familiarize yourself with their product.  Not only does it save you time, but online backup tends to be less expensive than other forms of backup such as, external hard drives, jump drives, and countless compact discs.  Plus, these alternate forms are just as prone to damage as the actual hard drive, especially if they are stored in the same area.

Do yourself a favor and take the necessary preventative measures to ensure all your critical and priceless files and documents are protected.  Get your online backup!

Get A Mentor: Specialized Mentorships

Monday, October 15th, 2007

So I came across a sweet site (via Make College Payoff) that specializes in “mentorships,” which can be defined as an apprenticeship, or one-on-one training with a professional.  Get A Mentor provides broadcasting, film, and radio internships (or mentorships) at a fraction of the cost of traditional higher education.   Students (who can range in age from 16-69) are paired with a professional from the field they wish to work in.  The training can be done to accommodate the schedule of the student and is always one-on-one.  It costs a one time fee of $6,000 and impressively, there is 100% job placement for students that complete the program.

Sounds like a great way to begin your dream career, establish contacts, and get your foot in the door without having to work years before you get a break.

Early Mortgage Payoff

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Many homeowners are searching for the ideal early mortgage payoff plan that would enable them to pay their mortgage in less time than the allotted 30 or 20 years.  The Money Merge Account (offered by United First Financial) is one such plan that is rapidly gaining popularity.  A revolutionary new mortgage plan, the Money Merge Account is said to help homeowners pay off their home in as little as 8 to 11 years.  For more information, visit the official UFirst website.

China Replacement

Friday, October 12th, 2007

When I was young, I vividly remember shattering one of my mother’s favorite china pieces.  Whoops.   Too bad she didn’t have access to online china replacement services back then.  Such services specialize in finding rare and discontinued china, crystal, and flatware.  Thank goodness, considering I have two boys (and a husband) that make me nervous when they’re around my wedding china!

Risk Management Software

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Those of you immersed in the business world know the necessity of risk management software; it makes the process of tracking and securing documents (in any format) much more effective and efficient, not to mention simple.

There are a number of companies that provide beneficial applications that enable companies to manage and control PC documents, comply with retention policies, and know the real-time status of all documents; I happen to be a fan of this one.

Most document retention companies have comprehensive websites that explain in depth their products, including benefits and features.  Some even have demo videos that you can watch.
